Tasty flavors! We enjoyed everything we ordered. The service was fast and the food came out really quickly too. The place is on the smaller side but you have the option of sitting inside or outside. Def a tourist spot. The prices of each dish is a little on the pricey side but worth it.

BEST CHINESE FOOD I'VE HAD! My boyfriend and I were walking around Chinatown when we were on Yelp trying to look for a good place to eat within walking distance. We stumbled upon House of Nanking and decided to give it a try. We ordered the Sizzling Rice Soup, Chili Oil Tossed Pork Wontons, and the Mogu Beef (based on our waiters recommendation). All three dishes were so good that I craved this food the day after, and that says a lot! The Sizzling Rice Soup kind of reminds me of a Vietnamese soup that I've had before called Canh Chưa, but a more elevated version. The Chili Oil Tossed Pork Wontons were soft and I loved the chili oil sauce around it. I've had other chili oil wontons, but this one hits differently. Definitely a must order! The Mogu Beef was recommended by our waiter and he did not disappoint! The meat on the inside was very tender and juicy and the restaurant also aligned the taste to my palate preference perfectly! Highly recommend this dish too. Next time I come back, I want to try other dishes but it will be hard since the three dishes I ordered were so good!

We got a recommendation from our hotel to try this place out and it did not disappoint. The food knocked my socks off, I'm talking 5 stars can we go again good. The meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Coming from me, that's saying a lot. We sat on the sidewalk and enjoyed every single morsel of food delivered to our table piping hot. The problem was the owner kind of hovered at our table while we were eating. It was a little strange but could be taken as him being passionate about his restaurant. I would let him sit In my lap though if I had to, just to enjoy this food again. I highly recommend but maybe get it to go if possible.

Our hotel was relatively close to Chinatown and House of Nanking was recommended to us. Upon arriving we were able to sit outside at a table which was fine. The table next to us had just ordered skillet fried rice which upon appearance I wanted for myself. Essentially a hot skillet is brought to the table and the rice is done at your table. We also split a homemade noodle dish with chicken. Food was outstanding, service was very good, and anyone wanting good Chinese food in San Francisco should stop. Highly recommend.

Embarking on our inaugural vacation day, we set our sights on the vibrant streets of Chinatown. Our attentive concierge had graciously shared a handful of lunch recommendations, and among them stood Nanking. As fate would have it, we stumbled upon this bustling establishment--a beacon of culinary promise--amidst a sea of diners. Service Staff and the Enigmatic Owner: The service staff, a congenial bunch, welcomed us with warm smiles. However, our encounter with the male owner left us intrigued and somewhat perplexed. Having never dined at Nanking before, we harbored a few inquiries. His demeanor, though not unfriendly, carried an air of impatience. Not once did he extend a simple greeting. Curiosity piqued, we wondered if language barriers were at play. Yet, to our surprise, he responded to one of our questions flawlessly in English. The plot thickened when a neighboring couple--the owner clearly thought they were of Asian descent--joined the scene. Suddenly, the owner transformed. His hospitality flowed freely as he engaged them in conversation. Their origin? Mexico. His reaction? Astonishment. He probed further, inquiring about their birthplace, and they confirmed: MEXICO! With their order taken, he vanished into the culinary labyrinth. The Culinary Revelation: Despite the service quirks, Nanking's food emerged as the true star. Hence, our generous 4-star rating. The flavors danced on our palates, weaving tales of distant lands and secret spices. Yet, a lingering disappointment remained--the absence of follow-up. No one checked if our meal satisfied, no inquiries about additional desires. The service, alas, fell short of the gastronomic marvels. In summary, Nanking tantalizes taste buds while leaving service nuances to ponder. A culinary adventure, indeed--one where flavors soar, and the enigma of the owner lingers like an unsolved riddle.

I recently had lunch at the House of Nanking in Chinatown, San Francisco, and it was an excellent experience, as always. This place never disappoints with its consistently delicious food. This time, we ordered the table-made fried rice, which was incredibly flavorful and cooked to perfection. We also had the steamed pork buns, which were soft, savory, and delicious. To complement our meal, I tried the special tea with the blossoming flower, which added a delightful and unique touch to the experience. Their service was attentive and addressed anything we needed throughout the meal. The ambiance at House of Nanking is just right for an authentic Chinese restaurant. It has a cozy, bustling atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. This place is truly a staple of San Francisco and a must-go for both tourists and locals alike. Highly recommend if you're in the area and looking for a memorable dining experience!

The beef dishes were delicious, it would melt in your mouth. The Sesame chicken was very salty, and since we didn't get any white rice it wasn't very palatable. The Mogu Beef was my favorite, it was in a honey-mustardy sauce. We also tried the Honey Beef and Apples to try something new, and it was surprisingly good! The pieces of apples tasted like apple cobbler, and the beef was sweet and salty. The Chow Mein was refreshing and had a gingery flavor to it, with some added texture from the cabbage. The service was fast in terms of bringing out dishes, but we had to ask several times for waters for the whole table. It was very hustle and bustle, and waitresses were yelling back and forth at each other while running around; not something bad, but it's just slightly chaotic. The owner allowed my service dog in without saying anything, which is appreciated as some places still complain. I would make the trip to come again for the Mogu Beef!
